‘proposed decision’ explained
The announcement will start a 10-day period wherein the dam’s proponent, the Queensland Government and other Federal ministers can comment and provide further evidence to support their views on the project.
He will then make a final determination on the dam.

I take my responsibilities as Environmental minister very seriously
Well the announcement interrupted Ellen, but I think she will be okay with it. A media conference at 12.45pm today, announced Peter Garrett’s “proposed decision” against the Traveston Crossing Dam, as indicated under the EPBC Act.
The winners are those who campaigned to save the Mary, and undoubtedly Peter Garrett himself. After years of criticism of hypocrisy Minister Garrett came closer than ever to legitimacy.
What a proposed decision means is a little confusing to me – and if anyone knows what a ‘proposed decision’ means. It’s connotations to a lay person is a little odd – to propose a decision as a minister with the total delegated authority makes me think what, was he just pontificating? Or it can be overruled by caucus? Or is it justifiable language as it needs to go through parliament? I actually have no clue and it’s my proposed decision that it is the latter.
Anna Bligh has been pwned again. Her press conference was announced on channel 9 as being in an hour.

With the federal election coming closer and the Qld Labor government becoming ever more unpopular – are the links between state and federal being severed for federal QLD seats in the federal election?
I can’t imagine how much Anna Bligh’s pressies are scrambling right now.
Boat People invade to Macleay Island
Residents of Macleay island are outraged on the invasion of boat people to the small prosperous island in Moreton Bay.
An unprecedented number of boats of illegals using the Russell island ferry service and the people smuggler organisation of ‘Pirate Waters Boat Hire’ are landing at an alarming rate reaching almost 30 times per day with alarming periodicity.
Macleay Island resident for twenty years Greg Miles says “the boat people are from a different culture, a different way – they’re taking advantage of the generous and soft policy of Macleay Island to get a free ride.”
“We’re not close minded or nothin’ and I know that we’re a lucky part of the world – but they should get in line with everyone else.

Scared residents: Greg, Bill and Tyson concerned about boat people
Bill Rogers the Community Watch secretary of Macleay and Russel Islands echoes Greg’s concerns, “Many residents of the islands are aware of our extreme vulnerability to being invaded by cultures from inner Brisbane, wanting asylum to an island way of life – but more from the newer method of people smuggling from failed island Coochiemudlo.”
“People squeeze up to two or three people on these unseaworthy craft – to the detriment of people on board,” he said.

214. Hungry Beast
The new programme on ABC1 and ABC2 with a revolutionised perspective on news commentary. It consists of ‘the 19′, a group of nascent and established young Australian media professionals looking into current political and social issues. It’s a mix of satire, off the wall commentary and documentary.
It’s had mixed reviews, with people unsure what to compare it to – however this isn’t the Chaser, it’s not CNNN and it’s not a current affairs programme – the Hungry Beast is a mosaic of promising creative and incisive minds.
After the Chasergate ‘make a wish’ crucifixion – and the Australian television’s subsequent reticence to commit to projects and particularly that are new and confronting – it’s comforting to see that this program doesn’t shy away from opinion and blue comedy – despite its criticism prior to its premiere only a few weeks ago.
It’s a great thing that a production like this has taken off, and after only 2 episodes it’s clear this programme is represents new and exciting ideas. Sure, there are a few teething problems, having effectively 19 producers was perhaps a bit jarring at first but the production value is high and it has balls that few other programs have reached post-Chaser.
Tune in.
Keep it tuned in. I’m excited.
